Actually, I think if you're looking for help with books, you should try a library. They can actually teach you how to read if you're having trouble with that, I think.
You are a very smart young man! That is an excellent idea. Libraries are great for any purpose and people should visit them before resorting to a bookshop.

if you have proplems and theirs noone their to help you in a bokshop maybe you can see if you can find a bok that can help you!

Thank you. I believe they were gifted to the shop by a very kind, young man after it had burned down. And even if they're not my usual stock, I'm planning to keep them safe.

I've read about this, actually! It's called a background-check. When my parents and I went to the pet store to buy my stick bugs, they actually asked if I was going to remember to feed them, and said that when they sell a dog or a cat, they make sure that the family they go to is actually prepared to take care of them!
Yes, exactly! I can't very well give my books away willy nilly. I have to make sure people are equipped to properly handle and care for them.
I had heard about the snake situation in the store. But I have no problem with snakes, so I went there a couple of days ago... They let some children with a dog in. It wasn't on a leash or well trained, and nobody made sure that it doesn't attack other people! A snake I can deal with, but a dog can jump you before you can defend yourself!
And I know this is going to sound crazy, but there was something wrong with that dog. I swear it can smell fear! And I swear, its eyes started to glow red when it had cornered me!
It doesn't matter how good the books are that this shop sells – and I love books, I really do – but the handling of everything in there is just unbelievably dangerous, after all that I've heard about the snakes, and what I've seen with that dog.

I'm very sorry about that. I had not realized that someone else had come in. I certainly don't want people to be scared. As for the eyes; I believe the dog does that sometimes. It's nothing to worry about.

Oh wow, not the orthographically-incorrect-punctuation-for-emphasis! I just overslept, don't get your manicure in a twist. I was in the shop earlier but you were dealing with some nasty looking thugs, so I snarled a bit at the ivy and thought I'd come back tomorrow.
If you mean the gentlemen in the suits, then yes, they were tax collectors and apparently it is not customary to hand in one's tax declaration the way that one is instructed. Which lead me to question them about the quality of those official instructions if following them is deemed “suspicious”.
But nevermind the taxes! You didn't think to even say “hello”?

If my memory of what you told me of that day serves me right, you were tied to a chair, after being bound and gagged and dragged into a vehicle. That sounds like the textbook definition of “abduction” to me.
And who did I do that for? Some fussy bookseller who now complains about me being in the habit of getting kidnapped. At least I didn't get hit over the head with a crowbar.

Like that shop well enough but that new addition is scaring away my customers. If you need to park your tall, dark and handsome somewhere, don't do it in front of my girls' offices. Every other customer tries to pay him and he's very smart about it. Every other-other customer tries to buy him and he's very snarky about it.
To put it bluntly: Don't lash your boytoy outside your shop. If it's sunny he loiters in front of mine and if it's rainy, some of my girls always take pity and let the beanpole shelter inside.

Ms Sandwich! I'm sure I don't know what you mean! I'll tell him to come inside; I wasn't aware he was outside. But that language you use is completely out of line. He is neither a boy nor a toy and I'm sure he doesn't need your pity, as he is well aware that he's always welcome to shelter from the rain in my shop, if bad weather catches him in Soho!

If anyone is here from Reddit: I have a theory. I'm sure you've already read my post about the dude who runs the shop being a vampire or something vampire-adjacent. (The notion that vampires exist is obviously ridiculous, but lore-wise, that is the closest match to what this type of cryptid actually is.)
I still stand by that hypothesis, and if you read the whole thread, I'm sure you'll agree that there is no other explanation that is not far-fetched and supported by very little evidence. Meanwhile, the vampire-theory is supported by:
- the bookseller not dying since 1800
- the cult / coven that is run out of the shop (you can read about it on this site if you go to the very first review dated back to 1800)
- the wish-fulfillment that a lot of reviewers write about getting after visiting this shop (this is clearly some deal-with-the-devil kind of situation that these people aren't even aware of)
- the bookseller being able to transform into, or at least communicate with and give orders to, animals like snakes (which is very similar to old-school vampire lore about them being able to turn into bats or wolves as seen in Dracula or Nosferatu, and being able to mind-control people and smaller animals like rats, spiders and insects)
- at half a dozen other reasons that I'm sure you can figure out yourselves
What I want to comment about here, is that I think I was wrong about the other guy that keeps being mentioned but doesn't seem linked as strongly to the bookshop as the bookseller. Originally, I suggested that this person is a vampire spawn who is under the complete control of the bookseller and hence keeps doing his bidding. I still think that is the most likely explanation for his behavior, but I would like to propose an alternative hypothesis:
This other man that keeps showing up to help, running into a fire, get beaten, abducted and tied to a chair for the bookseller, and is lurking in front of the shop so much that other shopkeepers complain, is most likely a protective presence – or as they're known colloquially: a guardian angel. But why would a guardian angel be protective of a vampire? Easy: Now we're back to the mind-control theory that I proposed earlier.
TL;DR I think we're looking at a vampire who brought a guardian angel under his control and is now using it to keep himself safe from who ever might come to investigate when people go missing in his bookshop.

Where are you even getting this “boyfriend” and “love story” stuff from? There's literally nothing in any of the reviews that suggests that! That guy clearly is under some kind of controlling influence and being made to serve the bookseller against his will. There is zero romance about any of it!

Haha, yeah. It's taking a lot of time, unfortunately, because I was planning something special and for reasons I can't disclose yet, that wasn't possible to do in 2020, so I had to postpone it until I have another time window in my work schedule.
