I'm so sorry I never wrote a review. I loved this shop. Never bought anything, but it was nice to just browse.
I was googling the internet site of the shop and this was all that came up. Is anyone hurt?
I'm seeing the whole thing happen from my flat. Terrible business, flames were several storeys high. Saw a guy drive up when the fire brigade arrived. Jumped out of his car, ran in, came out again and just drove off with a grim expression. I hope he was the proprietor and nobody was hurt. The firefighters are still picking their way through the rubble.
This isny good, god-fearing store; it's but a facade! While the southern pansy running it is in league with the devil! He will seduce yer wives n corrupt yer children! The fire was finally righteous punishment from above! And a great evil has been vanquished!

Read the room and show a bit of compassion. This shop burnt down just five days ago.
lol what are you on? i was there yesterday
I asked the shopkeeper if he can get me a book from the upper shelves. He whispered βI can't get up; the little darling has fallen asleep in my lap.β I thought it was a cat, so I went around his desk to see it, but it was a bloody snake! A disgusting, giant python! Do not go into this shop if you have any regard for your life!

I'll have you know that he is quite lovely! Really, your insults are entirely uncalled for! And I assure you, he is completely harmless!
????? First you say insults are uncalled for and then proceed to hurl an even worse one around????
Oh hush.
yeeeees this is where the noodle-puppy sightings start!
What's with all the insults?!
I'm so confused. Ignore my previous review. I was there today and everything is fine. The shop is up and running, and it looks like they have a lot of hidden treasures there, just waiting to be discovered. The emphasis is on βhiddenβ, though. I asked if they have Bartimaeus by Jonathan Stroud and the clerk first said no, then remembered that he ought to check first and then said he has no idea. And when I asked him if he could, please, check, he said he that it wouldn't do any good since his inventory list is all wrong anyway. Okay, I thought, might as well search for it myself, right? But when I wanted to know where the fantasy books are, he said AGAIN that he doesn't know. Like, I've heard that this shop was confusing and unorganized but I assumed that at least the staff knows where stuff is (or at least where to check).
And this is not the weird part. The weird part comes now: There was this colossal snake just happily basking on the back of the seller's armchair. At first I thought it was fake because obviously it had to be, right? But when I came back to the till to ask where the fantasy section is, it lifted its head and hissed at me!
I asked if I could pet it β probably not, but had to ask! The owner looked at it surprised and said βbetter notβ. Fair enough!
But anyway, after that, every time I tried to ask a question, the snake started hissing until I stopped talking... I think it was pretty cute and I have no problem with snakes, but in hindsight, that was definitely a tropical animal. Aren't they supposed to be kept in terrariums so they can keep warm? I don't believe for one second that the London climate is appropriate to keep a snake in, even indoors! And is it even legal to keep such a large animal as a pet? Isn't that animal cruelty?

Hello dear. My apologies for the unorganized state of the book shop. In a manner of speaking, we're in the process of taking stock and reorganizing... I assure you that the state the shop is currently in, is not indicative of our usual business.
And sorry about the snake. He is quite protective of me at the moment and he gets testy when he doesn't get his beauty-sleep. And I assure you that he is very well cared for.
:O this has everythiiiiiing! Fire, death, drama, rebirth, intelligent big-ass pets
Maybe not rebirth. Fire can kill almost everything on Earth that we know of. Knowing that, there is only one theory on reddit worth considering: We might be looking at parallel universes converging. There is no way a shop that multiple people saw burn to the ground is already up and running a a week later. Plus, this would also explain why the shopkeeper doesn't know what or where his wares are.
Technically, didn't the shopkeeper of our universe die in the fire and then the building came here from another universe with its shopkeeper already in it? He should know what's in his shop! Oh and I need to know: Did the big noodle come from the other universe, too? :3
It's just a theory! And we don't know if the shop and the shopkeeper came from the same parallel universe. Basic quantum physics tells us, if universes converge, it's usually more than just two.
OR MAYBE DID THE SNAKE FROM THE OTHER UNIVERSE RESURRECT HIM????????? :O :O :O
Where did you get that from?! Nobody even suggested that!
So this is the biggest mystery yet. Everything else is weird, but explainable if you're okay with an insane amount of coincidence. The bookshop being destroyed and then back as if nothing happened the next day, is definitely something that needs a full-blown investigation. Did officials not register the fire? If they did, are there records of how the bookshop was allegedly rebuilt after?
You conspiracy theorists will not let this go, will you? Again: I have been to this bookshop. It's a very normal, old Soho store with an owner who is slightly eccentric, and that's it. No supernatural beings and no fire. You people are ridiculous.
As far as I could gather, there were several eye-witnesses to the fire. Even other shopkeepers on the same street. You can maybe explain away everything else that happened in this shop with βweird but could happenβ, but I find it hard to believe that multiple people collectively hallucinated a major fire run.
Wasn't that about the same time that hundreds of people claimed to have seen Atlantis and an enormous octopus which ate ships?
Fair.

Who do you think you are to say that? Nobody was found so far! I'm sure Mr. Fell is fine! He was probably out, otherwise they would already have found someone.

I couldn't find him anywhere.

Can anyone tell me what's going on? I just got a call from a friend that the bookshop on Whickber street is up in flames. Is anyone hurt? Did the fire spread to any other shops? I'm currently in Sussex, I can't get hold of anyone.
π΅ VinylMagnateMaggie
